What are barefoot shoes?

Posted by Raphael Zimmer on

It's a common myth that barefoot shoes are called "barefoot" shoes because you wear them without socks. You can wear barefoot shoes both with and without socks - rather a personal preference. Also, the shoes don't need to look like gloves. Barefoot shoes can indeed look like regular stylish sneakers!

Why should you wear barefoot shoes then?

On the contrary to ordinary footwear, barefoot shoes enable your body to move naturally by allowing your feet to perceive your surroundings. They have a thin and extremely flexible sole, no cushioning, or arch support. The wide toe box doesn't squeeze your toes and enables them to spread correctly. This makes barefoot shoes super comfortable!

It might take some time until you get used to the new way of moving, but then your foot can rebuild its natural strength, and common issues such as flat feet or plantar fasciitis may be tackled. Barefoot shoes don't have any heel raise, so it's the same stack height throughout the entire shoe.
